……a little about Mr. Weisberg

My life changed beginning in 1975. That was the year I started my Taekwon-Do journey which has continued as a student and instructor.

This journey began by training in Moo Duk Kwon. I was taught by Manual Rodriguez, starting in 1975. Mr. Rodriguez moved from New York City to my area in Illinois. Mr. Rodriguez was a student at the Richard Chun Taekwondo Institute in New York. His instructors were Richard Chun, Joseph Hayes, and Sonny Mahai. I also traveled to New York to train on occasion.

After watching a local demonstration in 1978 by Mr. Mack Newton and his students from the Newton Taekwon-Do Center, I immediately inquired and ultimately joined Mr. Newton’s school that same year. Mr. Newton and the Newton Taekwon-Do Center were members of the International Taekwon-Do Federation. My instructor, Mack Newton, also coached the USA team at the 3rd World ITF Championships in Argentina in 1981. Shortly thereafter, Mack Newton and Gwen Hall formed the American Taekwon-Do Coalition (ATC).

In October of 1983, I received my 2nd degree black belt. Within a few months after that, Mr. Newton moved out of state. I continued training with my instructor by traveling several times to his new out of state location. We continue to communicate through social media.

At one point during my Taekwon-Do training I received my 2nd degree WTF Kukkiwon certificate in September of 1994.

Currently my rank is 3rd degree black belt. I am currently scheduled to test for 4th degree soon.

My teaching career began in 1979 through 1985 at a branch school of the Newton Taekwon-Do Center. I then started my own school in 1987, the Weisberg Taekwon-Do Center. I taught through 2005. Due to my position and time commitments in education, I stopped teaching in 2005, though I continued to train. In 2018 I resumed teaching. I continue through this day teaching at the Weisberg Taekwon-Do Center.

I and my school became affiliated with the ITF-USA around February of 2018. Additionally, we became affiliated with the ICTF in December of 2020.

Over the years, in addition to Taekwon-Do, I taught kickboxing, fitness classes, and Women’s Self Defense workshops. I was also a high school Cheerleading coach.

I am now in my sixties and my physical abilities have changed over the years. This is mainly due to hip replacements. Though my passion and “never give up” attitude has continued in Taekwon-Do. Continuing to train and teaching others to be their best has not wavered over the years.
